Liberty defeats Destiny ChristianCharity Fowler dished out 32 points as she and the Liberty Academy Lady Eagles defeated visiting Destiny Christian 56-34 Tuesday evening.
The Liberty boys also had good fortune as they delivered a 54-30 setback to Destiny Christian’s Wildcats.
Fowler got in the double-double column by snagging 18 rebounds, and she also registered eight steals. Teammate Blair Johnson contributed 19 points for the Lady Eagles, and Tessa Ring rounded out the offensive onslaught with nine.
The Lady Eagles led 20-14 after one quarter, and held a 26-20 advantage at the break before rolling over the Lady Wildcats 30-14 in the second half.
“The girls picked it up defensively in the second half,” said Liberty girls’ head coach Teresa Fowler.
Fowler said the Liberty boys “worked well as a team” in their contest.
Monty Roberts led the Eagles with 17 points and eight rebounds. Teammates Tanner Fowler and Ellison Evans were Liberty’s other double-digit players with 13 points and 10 points, respectively.
The Eagles held a 17-6 edge after the first quarter, and limited the Wildcats to single-digit numbers through the third quarter. A late rally came up short as Destiny Christian outscored the hosts 14-10 in the final eight minutes of play.
The Lady Eagles are now 4-2 on the season, while the Eagles are 2-3. Liberty Academy will visit Lawton Christian Friday, with the girls playing at 6:30 p.m. and the boys playing at 8 p.m.
