Oklahoma City’s Hunter Sparks edged Bethel product Kyle Lewis Thursday in the final round of the Oklahoma Golf Association Junior Boys Championship at Fairfax Golf Course.
Sparks defeated Edmond’s Matthew Helms 4-and-3 in Thursday’s semifinals before winning 1-up over Lewis. Lewis defeated Tulsa’s Charlie Saxon 2-and-1 in the semifinals.
Lewis, a senior-to-be at Bethel High School, nipped Saxon by one stroke in the 2009 Class 3A state tournament to take the runner-up spot. Lewis was the 2008 Class 3A champion, and was runner-up as a freshman in 2007.
Lewis finished the stroke-play portion of this week’s championship at 3-under 139, which put him second behind Sparks. Stroke play was held Monday and Tuesday.
In Wednesday’s match play, Lewis defeated Max Meyers 4-and-3 before going on to advance to the Final Four with a 5-and-4 defeat of Chickasha’s Taylor Williams.
