Thanks to a 78-74 overtime win over visiting Columbia College Saturday, the St. Gregory’s University men’s basketball team remains unbeaten heading into tonight’s road game in Little Rock, Ark.
The Cavaliers are 3-0 and are already one win up on their 2-27 record from last season.
Saturday’s triumph marks their second OT win of the season — the first being a double-overtime (92-82) win over Paul Quinn University on Nov. 5.
The Cavs trailed 31-26 after the first half of Saturday’s contest at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse, but outscored the Cougars 37-32 in the second half to knot the score at 63 at the end of regulation. SGU the posted 15 points to Columbia College’s 11 in overtime.
Fayzon Richey led the Cavaliers with 22 points, including a 50-percent performance from the field and a 10-of-11 showing at the charity stripe.
Chris Dean added 20 points for St. Gregory’s, and Jade Carter rounded out the Cavs’ double-digit scorers with 13. Carter also led SGU in rebounds with eight.
The Cougars’ Chad Thompson led the game with 23 points, and CC’s Greg Stegerman contributed 14.
All total, the Cavs connected on 19 of 46 shots from the field, including three of 14 from three-point range. SGU hit 37 of 48 foul shots, while Columbia College netted 22 of 26 free throws.
The Cougars hit 24 of 60 field goals, including four of 19 from outside the arch.
The Cavaliers will face the University of Arkansas-Little Rock at 7:05 p.m. today.
