DIBBLE — Almost 40 years ago to the date, Stroud’s 1969 football team went 10-0 en route to capturing a state championship.
Friday night, the 2009 Stroud squad culminated a 10-0 regular season with a 47-0 trampling of Dibble.
Stroud also captured the District A-5 crown with an 8-0 record.
“To post a perfect season and join that 1969 squad, which went on to win a state championship, is something very special,” Stroud head coach Chris Elerick said. I thought we played well.”
It was Stroud’s third shutout of the season. The Tigers have outscored 10 opponents by a combined score of 437-67.
Stroud piled up 337 yards on 34 carries while Dibble was limited to 82.
Stroud led 33-0 at the half and 47-0 after three quarters. The Tigers started subbing out in the third quarter.
The Tigers scored on the game’s first play on a 61-yard pass connection between quarterback Andrew Miller and receiver Austin Billingslea. Stroud added a 6-yard scoring run by Jeremee Knipp on its second possession.
Stroud’s three second-quarter touchdowns came on a 7-yard reception by Shane Pennock, a 3-yard run by Cody Pritchard and a 7-yard reception by Dakota Biswell.
Scoring runs of 49 yards by Juliano Barsin and 25 by Biswell completed the scoring.
Pritchard piled up 133 yards on 12 carries while Biswell finished with 94 yards on five attempts.
Ryan McElvaney and Tony Yocham had an interception apiece for the victors. Dibble was held to just 36 yards passing.
Dibble finished the year at 3-7 overall and 3-5 in the district.
Elerick said his squad would take on District A-6 member Savanna Friday night in a first-round playoff game at Stroud.
