Tough, tough sledding.

That was Shawnee’s plight Friday night as it was humbled by third-ranked Jenks, 54-7, in a District 6A-3 opener.

Shawnee, which suited up fewer than 40 players, was totally overwhelmed by a much deeper, much bigger and vastly more talented Trojan squad that improved to 3-1 overall.

Trey’Vonne Barré, subbing for University of Oklahoma signee Alex Ross, ran for 242 yards on 21 carries, all in the first half. Jenks led 35-0 at halftime.

Jenks’ first teamers scored on five of seven possessions before taking the bench for good at halftime.

The Trojans rolled up 623 yards of offense — 399 on the ground and 224 through the air — while dropping Shawnee to 0-4.

Shawnee accumulated only 198 yards of offense — 60 on the ground on 23 carries and 138 yards through the air.

Ninety-four of those yards came in the second half against reserves.

For the night, Jenks scored on eight of its 10 offensive possessions.

Wolfpack quarterback Wolf Kienzle was accurate on 11 of 25 passes with no interceptions. Under constant pressure, Kienzle was sacked six times.

Shawnee averted a shutout by going 80 yards in five plays on its second possession of the closing half.

Kienzle and sophomore Kendall Gilbert hooked up on a 49-yard scoring pass down the sideline. Theo Berry had receptions of 18 and 19 yards to set up the TD.

Berry had five receptions for 87 yards, including a diving 23-yarder in the first half. Cullen Walker posted a 30-yard catch on the final play of the game.

Shawnee threatened on its sixth possession of the initial half as Kienzle scampered 54 yards to the Trojan 9. But a quarterback sack and three incompletions nullified the threat.

Coach Billy Brown’s visitors recorded 10 offensive plays that produced minus-30 yards.

Quarterback Hunter Collins, starting his second game because of an injury to Kyle Alexander, hit nine of 13 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns.

For the second straight year, a continuous running clock was employed for much of the second half.

There were no turnovers in the contest.

The only Trojan defeat this season was a 41-19 decision to top-ranked Tulsa Union in Week 2.

Jenks registered a 55-0 victory over Shawnee in 2010 after carving out a 48-0 intermission gap.

Shawnee will continue district play next Friday night by entertaining Norman at Jim Thorpe Stadium.
