Two Shawnee products, Rickey Lee Crain and Marchand Fleming, posted first-place finishes at last weekend’s National Powerlifting Championships at the University of Missouri.
Fleming, competing in the open division, received the outstanding open lifter award. All of his lifts — 547 in the squat, 319 in the bench press and 551 in the deadlift — were national open records. He had a total lift of 1,417 pounds.
A Shawnee spokesman said Fleming just missed the 600-pound mark in the squat and 590 in the deadlift.
Crain topped all junior division (20-23) entrants and was second in the open division.
All of his lifts — 474 in the squat, 271 in the bench press and 451 in the deadlift — were national junior records.
He received the outstanding junior lifter award after compiling his 1,196 pound total.
Crain came up just short of cracking the 500-pound mark in the squat.
