SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Shawnee’s varsity volleyball squad improved to 3-0 in conference action with a 25-5, 25-9, 27-25 decision over visiting El Reno Tuesday night.
The Lady Wolves of head coach Jessica Palmer improved to 10-1 overall. The only loss came to McGuinness.
“Senior Nichole Coots played well with four attacks and five kills,” Palmer said. “The first and second game was an easy sweep with our aggressive serves led by Tatum Colburn and Courtney Buchanan. With such big leads on this team, it was a good opportunity on the third game to get some playing time and experience for players expected to play for the varsity team next year.”
Shawnee found itself with its highest ranking ever — fourth in Class 5A.
Coming up Thursday, Sept. 11 for Shawnee is a date with visiting McAlester. The Buffs are currently ranked second in 5A.
“We beat McAlester at the end of last season,” Palmer said. “If we can get a good defense on their strong outside attacker and break their aggressive serves, we will have a chance of making the top 3 in the rankings.”
Shawnee will have a chance to tune up for McAlester when it travels to Chickasha Tuesday night for another conference encounter.
Note: Fred Fehr compiled these rankings.
