WEATHERFORD — Oklahoma Baptist absorbed its first women’s basketball loss in a defensive struggle against NCAA Division II’s 12th-ranked team, Central Oklahoma, 61-56 Friday.
The Lady Bison had its worst shooting game of the young season, missing all nine second-half three-point attempts and hitting 39 percent from the field for the game.
OBU fell behind 13-0, missing its first nine shots of the game, before Jayme Glover hit a pair of three-pointers to jump start the offense seven minutes into the game. Ashley Harrell capped a 6-0 run to give OBU a 24-23 lead with 3:20 left in the first half.
The first-half lead peaked at 30-25 on a layup by Vedrana Milakovic with 32 seconds left but Kasey Tweed hit a three-pointer for UCO to make it 30-28 at the half.
OBU led by as many as four in the second half but the sputtering offense finally cost the team the lead.
Val Siemens tied the score with 2:17 left, 52-52, but back-to-back breakaway layups by Christina Yarbrough after a three-pointer by Tweed put the Lady Bison on the canvas.
Harrell led OBU with 15 points while Taujhnae Travis added 11 points and eight rebounds. Harrell was the lone Lady Bison to shoot better than 50 percent from the field.
Now 3-1, the Lady Bison return to Weatherford Saturday to take on host Southwestern Oklahoma State at 3:30 p.m.
