SHAWNEE, Okla. —

Shawnee’s attempt to host the Class 5A state baseball championship went awry Tuesday night because of heavy rainfall accumulations.
The showdown between Chickasha and Bixby was scheduled to get underway at 6:30 but heavy rains drenched the Memorial Park outfield.
After the rain concluded, the infield tarp was removed, but the umpires deemed the field unplayable because of the soggy outfield. The decision was made after 8 p.m. after the umpires, coaches and Oklahoma Secondary School Activities Association officials walked the field.
The teams and their fans then moved to an alternate site, the University of Oklahoma’s L. Dale Mitchell Park, to play the title game following the 6A championship matchup.
There was no report on the game as of press time.
