OKLAHOMA CITY — Five turnovers were too much for Meeker to overcome Friday night in a 32-12 District 2A-2 setback to Centennial.
Meeker lost four fumbles and had one pass intercepted in falling to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in district play.
Junior running back Levi Butler, in his first year of football, opened the scoring with a 15-yard scamper in the first quarter. The point-after kick attempt failed, leaving Meeker up 20-6.
Meeker then lost a fumble at its 20 and Centennial scored in three plays. Centennial added two more second-quarter touchdowns for a 20-6 halftime lead.
After a scoreless third quarter, Meeker launched the fourth-quarter scoring with a 50-yard pass reception by Dylan Graham from Tyler Jones to cut the deficit to 20-12.
Centennial, however, added two fourth-quarter touchdowns to cement the victory.
“Levi played a good game,” Meeker head coach Mike Hedge said. “We had four fumbles and lost every one of them.”
Centennial finished with two turnovers.
Meeker will continue district play Thursday night by entertaining Lexington.
