TECUMSEH — Eight days later than expected, Tecumseh celebrated homecoming Saturday night with a pair of blowout wins over Noble.
The matchups were originally scheduled for Jan. 29 but were postponed by the recent winter storm.
The Savages held the Bear boys to 25.7 percent shooting and forced 27 turnovers in a 73-27 win. Tecumseh’s girls followed with a 66-33 thumping of the Lady Bears.
As is common for basketball homecomings, the boys game was held first Saturday night since some of the girl players were in formal gowns and heels for the ceremony that started the evening.
The Bears scored the game’s first basket, but never came close to leading again. Tecumseh scored nine unanswered points and extended its lead to 13-4 with 2:59 to go in the first quarter. The Savages finished the period up 15-8.
In the second quarter, the Bears made just three of 15 shots as the Savages scored 24 points. Tecumseh’s Kevin Hill was the star with 11 points in the quarter.
The Savages went to the locker room with a 39-14 advantage after making 13 of 24 shots in the half.
The start of the second half brought more steady shooting for Tecumseh and more frustration for Noble. The Savages went 9-of-16 from the floor in the third quarter and forced the Bears into 10 turnovers in eight minutes.
Noble only got five shots off in the third quarter and made two. The Bears were successful on two of six free throws in the period and started the fourth quarter down 60-21.
Poor shooting by Tecumseh’s reserves down the stretch (5 of 14) caused the Savages to finish at an even 50 percent (27 of 54). They were five of 18 (27.8 percent) from 3-point range.
Tecumseh also had a stellar night at the foul line, making 14 of 15 free throws. Noble also attempted 15 and made eight.
Henry Weaver led the way for Tecumseh with 17 points, just ahead of Hill’s 16. Fellow starter Francisco Hukill also reached double figures in scoring with 10 points. Eleven Savages scored in the one-sided contest.
Noble did not have a double-digit scorer. Gage Anderson was tops with eight points and Jared Palmer came off the bench to add seven.
The win helped salvage the weekend for the Savages, who lost 59-58 in overtime at Byng Friday night. Tecumseh’s boys are 17-2.
Tecumseh’s girls didn’t shoot as well as the boys, but had a similar experience against the Lady Bears.
Noble shot just 27.7 percent (13 of 47) from the floor. Tecumseh’s success rate wasn’t a lot better, at 35.7 percent, but the Lady Savages put the ball up a lot more often. Tecumseh made 25 of 70 shots.
The Lady Savages jumped to a 14-5 lead after one quarter. Amanda Hill and Kim Billie both knocked down 3-pointers in the frame.
Tecumseh extended its advantage to 36-14 at halftime. After the first two quarters, the Lady Savages had already attempted 17 free throws and made nine.
Sharing appeared to be the name of the game for Tecumseh offensively. Ten Lady Savages recorded points and none were in double digits.
Devan Harris and Larryse Turned tied for the team lead with nine points each. Three Lady Savages finished with eight points apiece: Montana Rickey, Hill and Billie.
Conversely, only five Lady Bears logged points. Kennresha Harris had a game-high 14 and Robbi Lee was next with 11.
Tecumseh’s girls improved to 12-7 while Noble remained winless at 0-17.
