The Tigers of Maud, possessors of a third consecutive district title, will continue their quest for an unbeaten season as they tangle tonight with non-district opponent Canadian.
The game will kick off at 7:30 at Maud’s Derrell Pearcy Stadium.
This will be the Tigers’ second and final non-district contest of the season, and they will end the regular campaign on the road next Friday night against District C-4 foe Bluejacket.
Last week’s 44-14 triumph over Bokoshe sealed Maud’s third straight C-4 title, and became the Tigers’ 28th consecutive district win.
A win tonight would be Maud’s 19th straight at home.
Maud, 8-0 overall and 6-0 in district play, joins Shattuck and Timberlake as the only undefeated public school teams in Class C. Canadian, an independent school, is 4-3 overall, while Community Christian is the only undefeated independent school team.
Shattuck is Class C’s six-time defending state champion.
Through eight games, the Tigers have defeated opponents by a combined 333-136. Maud has rolled up more than 2,800 total yards of offense — including 2,544 rushing yards — while permitting 1,695 yards.
Leading the Tigers’ offensive charge is senior Robert Fellows, who has a seven-game total of 10 touchdowns and 913 yards on 105 rushes. Quarterback Shane Bailey, a junior, has 16 rushing scores and 620 yards on 84 carries, while senior Jordy Garren has 10 scores and more than 570 yards on 91 totes.
Bailey has completed 14 of 36 passes on the season for 318 yards and four TDs, including three scoring connections to Garren. Garren has just over 230 yards on 11 catches for an average of 21 yards per reception.
Defensively, Garren leads the Tigers in tackles with 144 through eight games. Garren recently surpassed the school’s career record for tackles, set in 2008 by Matt Moutaw, and now has a total of 347.
Allen at Macomb
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Macomb’s Hornets will try to snap an eight-game losing skid tonight while hosting Allen at Tecumseh’s Farris Willingham Field.
The Class B Hornets, in their second year of varsity football, have not won a game. The school’s overall record is 0-18.
Allen is in fifth place in District B-2 with a 3-3 record, and undefeated Ryan occupies first place.
The Hornets and Mustangs will kick off at 7:30 p.m.
