Cuttino Mobley scored 12 of his season-high 23 points during a 23-4 third-quarter run that carried the Los Angeles Clippers to a 108-88 victory over Oklahoma City in a matchup between one-win teams Wednesday night.
Mobley added a career-high seven steals for the Clippers (2-9), who outscored the Thunder 30-16 in the third period. Mobley helped Los Angeles turn a four-point deficit into a 15-point lead and the Clippers weren’t threatened after that.
Chris Kaman scored a season-high 25 points and added 14 rebounds for Los Angeles, and Al Thornton scored 20 points. Kevin Durant had 18 points for the Thunder (1-11), and Damien Wilkins finished with 17.
Oklahoma City outscored the Clippers 11-2 to take a six-point lead after the first quarter, then went on to lead 46-33 after consecutive baskets by Durant — a 3-pointer and a dunk over Mobley after driving past Tim Thomas from the right wing.
Oklahoma City led by 15 in the second quarter, but it was all Clippers after that.
The Thunder made just one basket and turned the ball over four times in the final three minutes of the half. The Clippers took advantage of that drought to outscore the Thunder 14-2, scoring on six of seven possessions and getting within three at halftime. Mobley had six of those points.
He had six baskets in the Clippers’ big run that gave them command for good.
After making half its shots in the first quarter, the Thunder returned to form in the second, going 8-for-19 from the floor. Oklahoma City was 11-of-34 in the second half to finish the game at 40 percent, right at its season average that has the Thunder last in the league.
Los Angeles, just a fraction better than Oklahoma City in that category, wound up at 47 percent (46 of 97). The Clippers also forced 20 turnovers.
Oklahoma City entered the game last in the league in shooting.
