Central Bible was the Wal-Mart greeter to Oklahoma Baptist’s horde of Black Friday shoppers Friday with OBU getting the goods and a 97-42 win.
Each Bison starter and back-up point guard Heath McKay reached double-digits in the scoring column as OBU posted 38 points on lay-ups and dunks. The Bison shot 66.1 percent from the field, 53.8 percent from three-point range and out-rebounded the Spartans 40-14.
OBU turned 25 Central Bible turnovers into a 39-9 points-off-turnovers advantage and had as many offensive rebounds (14) as CBC had total rebounds, resulting in a 15-2 second-chance-points edge.
The score was tied 6-6 with 16:29 left in the first half before Garrett Steinmetz and Tim Bowman scored back-to-back three-pointers off feeds from Nate Brumfield for a 12-6 lead.
OBU finally broke things wide open with a 17-0 run for a 38-19 lead with 3:48 left in the half. Six Bison scored in that spree, including a pair of three-pointers by McKay. That run also featured a 15-footer by Steinmetz, who lost the handle on a drive and was credited with the basket after the ball went in off the glass.
Mirko Vojinovic scored a jumper and Bowman and Jerrod Tillmon followed with lay-ups for a half-ending 6-0 run for a 47-23 lead.
OBU opened the second half with a 17-2 tear with six points from Brumfield and five by Bowman leading the charge. That run left the Bison with a 64-25 lead.
McKay got three assists during a 16-0 run in which Brumfield scored six more to give OBU an 80-29 lead.
OBU added a 9-0 run with points from five players for a 91-37 lead with 3:08 to go. McKay, Danny Derry and Emmanuel Wilson all scored in a game-ending 6-0 run for the biggest margin and final score of 97-42.
Tillmon and Brumfield led the Bison wit 15 apiece, while Hawkins had 14, Bowman 12 and Steinmetz and McKay 10 each. Brumfield and Hawkins had eight rebounds each and McKay and Brumfield led with four assists each.
McKay led with four steals and Brumfield had three.
Now 5-0, the Bison will warm up for Sooner Athletic Conference action with a non-conference contest Monday at home against Manhattan Christian. The tip off is at 7 p.m.
