Lady Bison fall in SAC championship

LUBBOCK, Texas — Oklahoma Baptist pushed No. 20 Lubbock Christian to the limit but came up short of a national tournament berth Saturday, losing in the Sooner Athletic Conference championship, 3-2.
OBU won the first two sets 25-15 and 25-20 before falling 25-22, 25-17 and 15-12.
The Lady Bison blew out to a 12-4 lead in the first set, using four kills by Tamy Leipelt and three by Chassie Hamilton. LCU got as close as 20-14 before Hamilton and Leipelt got two more kills each in a set-ending 5-1 run.
OBU trailed 15-10 in the second set but battled back to get within 18-17. A 4-0 run, including a block and a kill by Hamilton, gave the Lady Bison the lead for good. OBU closed out the set with another 4-0 run with two kills by Hamilton.
The Lady Bison led the third set 8-3 but LCU got right back into it.
Tied at 22-22, LCU got three straight kills to win the set and seize momentum.
LCU scored the first three points of the fourth set and never trailed.
OBU fell behind 8-4 in the championship set but used a 9-3 run to take a 12-11 lead as Suyan Leipelt had two kills and Tori Orms two blocks. But that was the tournament’s last scoring for OBU as LCU closed out the match on a kill and three OBU attack errors.
The Lady Bison finish the season at 31-10, having tied the school win record.
Tamy Leipelt had 22 kills, followed by Hamilton with 14 and Skyler Strahm with 10. Sabra Clark had 51 assists. OBU got 37 digs by Cassie Winker, followed by 26 from Suyan Leipelt, 24 from Tamy Leipelt and 14 from Hamilton.
Orms led with four blocks.
