The drama ended early in Oklahoma Baptist’s 130-75 victory over University of the Southwest in the Bison’s Homecoming feast Saturday.
The Bison scored the first 12 points of the game and never looked back. Garrett Steinmetz scored five, Nate Brumfield four and AJ Hawkins three in the initial run.
After a pair of USW free throws, the Bison went on an 11-0 run with four more points by Brumfield for a 23-2 lead six minutes into the action.
Brumfield finished the game with 39 points and 13 rebounds in 26 minutes of playing time. Hawkins scored 21 in his 24 minutes and pulled in eight boards.
Emmanuel Wilson followed with 16 points, while Jerrod Tillmon added 13 and Steinmetz 11. OBU led by as many as 28 points in the first half when Tillmon scored to end a 5-0 run for a 55-27 Bison lead. OBU had a 59-32 advantage at halftime.
That was as close as the Mustangs, who were 1-2 against the Sooner Athletic Conference coming in, would get.
OBU had three 8-0 runs in the second half. The Bison got a three-pointer by Mirko Vojinovic with 2:22 left for the biggest lead, 128-73.
The Bison out-rebounded USW 52-28 and committed just 10 turnovers. OBU shot 61 percent for the game and canned 11 of 22 three-pointers and 25 of 29 free throws.OBU outscored the Mustangs 42-4 off the bench with Wilson leading the way in that category.
Now 2-0 on the season, the Bison host Central Bible at 7 p.m. Monday.
