NORMAN — Texas A&M’s miseries at Memorial Stadium continued Saturday with a 65-10 drubbing from Oklahoma.
A&M has dropped six straight games in Norman. The last Aggie victory at Memorial Stadium was a 51-7 decision in 1997, John Blake’s second year at the OU helm. OU holds an 18-10 advantage in the series.
• The Sooners extended their nation-leading home win streak to 29. Head coach Bob Stoops is 65-2 at Norman.
• Prior to Saturday, Texas A&M hung its hat on third-down offensive proficiency. The Aggies were the Big 12 leader with a 51.5-percent success rate, converting 69 of 134.
Oklahoma’s defense put a dent in that statistic, holding the visitors to just six of 22 conversions for 27.2 percent.
The Aggies trailed 42-10 at halftime, thanks largely to a dismal 3-of-12 success on third down situations. A&M had been the only Big 12 team converting over half of its third-down attempts.
• Jimmy Stevens, who had lost his placekicking duties, hit six of seven extra-point attempts. Stevens has made 27 of 29 attempts this season. His holder was former Shawnee product Carter Whitson, in his senior year.
Another kicker, Patrick O’Hara, saw his first action, and was successful on a field goal and two extra points.
• With eight receptions, Norman product Ryan Broyles brought his team-leading total to 50 for 744 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also scored on a 25-yard run off a reverse.
Broyles had big numbers despite missing all of the Baylor game and most of the Miami loss.
• After throwing five interceptions in a 10-3 loss to Nebraska, Landry Jones had five TD tosses against the Aggies.
Jones has more touchdown passes, 22, than any other major college freshman this season.
• With the win, Oklahoma became the eighth Big 12 team to gain bowl eligibility. Missouri and Iowa State joined the six-win club Saturday afternoon. A&M is one win shy of bowl status with games remaining against Baylor and Texas.
Only seven Big 12 schools went bowling last year with Kansas State, Baylor, A&M, Colorado and Iowa State missing the boat.
• OU enjoyed its highest single-game offensive output of the season with 640 yards. Its previous high had been 592 in a 33-7 win over Baylor.
• Representatives from two bowls — Alamo and Independence — were in attendance Saturday.
• Walk-on quarterback John Nimmo, a junior from Ponca City, got in the game with four minutes left.
