Taujhnae Travis scored with 2.8 seconds left to deliver a 63-61 Oklahoma Baptist Homecoming win over Langston Saturday in the Noble Complex.
OBU had a 61-55 lead with under a minute to play but back-to-back three-pointers in a 13-point span by Latesha Calton-Woods and Shonderlette Paul tied the game with nine seconds to play.
After a timeout, Travis drove the lane and scored while drawing a foul with 2.8 seconds remaining. She missed the free throw and Woods rebounded but LU did not get off a shot.
“This Langston team is a good basketball team,” said OBU coach John McCullough. “They have a lot of talent. They made a tough shot at the end to tie it up, but fortunately Tauj got it done. It’s good to see Tauj make a play like that.”
OBU led by as many as 10 points in the first half after Jayme Glover scored five points in an 8-0 Lady Bison run to a 21-11 lead midway through the first half.
Langston scored the last five points of the half and held OBU to a single field goal in the final 4:30 before intermission, ending the half in a 27-27 deadlock.
OBU scored the first seven points of the second half, but Langston answered with a 20-6 run to build a 47-40 lead with 7:26 to play.
Travis and Gabriell Mattox recorded back-to-back three-point plays and the momentum switched back to the home team.
Langston got the lead back out to four points, but Val Siemens hit a three-pointer to trigger a 9-0 OBU run, setting up the near-heroics for the Lady Lions.
Travis led OBU with 17 points, followed by Mattox with 16 and Siemens with 10. Mattox and Siemens had eight rebounds apiece while Vedrana Milakovic added seven.
Paul and Sanetra Jackson led LU with 13 points each.
Now 3-0, the Lady Bison play the University of Central Oklahoma in Weatherford at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
