St. Gregory’s University’s women have long surpassed their single-win record from last year, and are now 3-2 on the season after toppling Manhattan Christian 78-36 Saturday at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse.
The Lady Cavs roared ahead to a 41-23 halftime lead, and outgunned the Lady Crusaders 37-13 in the second half.
Starters Heather Anderson and Brittania Simmons led SGU with 15 points each, and Allison Klick contributed 12 with a 4-of-6 effort from three-point range. Carletta Hernandez pitched in with 10 points from the bench as the hosts rolled out a 31-of-64 performance from the field.
The SGU bench accounted for 30 of the Lady Cavs’ points.
Hernandez and Lacey Craig were 2-of-2 from the foul line, and Leticia Silva was 4-of-4. All total, the Lady Cavs connected on 11 of 14 free throws while MCC connected on eight of 14.
Silva and Brittany Davis led SGU in board with six rebounds each.
Brianna Helfrich was the Lady Crusaders’ offensive spark with 15 points, including a 1-of-1 effort from three-point range and a 4-of-5 effort from the charity stripe.
Teammate Chelsea Benson contributed 11 points.
The Lady Crusaders were 13-of-48 from the field.
Next up for the Lady Cavs is a 7 p.m. tip-off at home Tuesday against Bacone University.
