Shawnee’s Lady Wolves will continue their hoped-for drive to a perfect regular season when they invade Western Heights at 6:30 tonight.
The two squads met two months ago in a Dec. 29 season opener at Shawnee. The Lady Wolves, despite some jitters, held off a late Lady Jets’ rally to record a 39-32 victory.
Sixteen additional games later, coach Wendi Wells has her Shawnee squad at 17-0 and ranked No. 1 in Class 5A. Following tonight’s game, the Lady Wolves will have five remaining regular-season contests, three of which are at home against Piedmont, Noble and Chickasha.
Western Heights’ girls are ranked 20th.
In the Nov. 29 matchup, Shawnee led by as many as 19 points in the third quarter before WH came storming back. Micaela Yu led Shawnee’s scoring with 14 points and Kelsee Grovey chipped in with nine.
Antoinet Webster headed Western Heights with a game-high 19.
The Lady Wolves are coming off a 53-20 home victory last Tuesday night against Ponca Ciy.
Shawnee’s boys, 7-10 on the year and ranked 20th, will challenge Western Heights following the girls’ contest.
In the Nov. 29 game, Shawnee cruised to a 69-48 triumph as Dejoun Sanders reaped a game-high 26 points. Also in double figures for Shawnee were Tyler Case and Dillion Mooreland with 16 and 11 points, respectively.
Both Shawnee squads will be home Friday night opposite Piedmont.
There are a number of other Tri-County basketball squads scheduled for action tonight, including Tecumseh at Seminole.
Dale’s boys, ranked fifth in 2A, and Dale’s girls, ranked 11th, will be home opposite Christian Heritage.
Both Prague squads are ranked in 3A — the Lady Red Devils at No. 2 and the Prague boys at No. 19. Prague will entertain Stroud.
Stroud’s boys are ranked eighth in 3A.
Chandler’s girls, seventh in 3A, will travel to Cushing.
Other matchups tonight involving Tri-County teams are Konawa at Bethel, Asher at Strother, Meeker at Perkins-Tryon, Earlsboro at Moss,
Okemah at McLoud and Macomb at Wanette.
Earlsboro’s boys are 15th in Class A and McLoud’s girls are 16th in 4A.
