Shawnee’s basketball squads will be plenty busy the next three days as they serve as hosts for the 2012 Shawnee Invitational at the Shawnee High School Athletic Center.
Shawnee’s girls, who will face Ardmore at 12:30 p.m. today in the opening round, are the highest ranked team in either the boys or girls’ brackets. The Lady Wolves of head coach Wendi Wells, 13-0, are No. 1 in Class 5A.
McAlester, on the other side of the bracket from the Lady Wolves, is ranked ninth in 5A.
Shawnee’s girls are coming off a 52-33 bashing of Harrah Tuesday night.
Shawnee’s boys, fresh from a 77-56 triumph over Harrah, will open tournament play at 11 a.m. today against Coweta. The Wolves, 6-7 on the season, are ranked 20th in 5A.
The semifinals are scheduled for Friday with the finals slated for Saturday.
Several other area squads are in tournament play today. Tecumseh’s squads will be at Jones and Bethel will be at Newcastle. Prague, Chandler and Meeker will continue play at the 66 Conference Tournament at Okemah.

Coach Larry James and his Shawnee varsity squad will try to improve on a 6-1 dual match when it entertains Carl Albert at 7 p.m. today at the Shawnee High School Stucker Complex.
Shawnee recorded five falls Tuesday night in a 48-22 romp over Ada.
The Wolves will also compete Friday and Saturday in the Coweta Tournament.
