HARRAH — Head coaches Todd Boyer of Shawnee and David Shannon of Harrah knew one thing for sure entering Wednesday’s Suburban Conference matchup.
Both knew a 1-0 decision was inevitable.
For the seventh straight time in the matchup — over a three-year period — the game did indeed end in a 1-0 decision.
And for the fourth time in that span, Harrah was the victor.
Behind a no-hit, seven-inning pitching performance by senior Ali Manship, Harrah dropped Shawnee’s conference mark to 2-1 and its overall record to 6-3.
The hard-luck loser was fellow senior Ashley Brokeshoulder, who gave up her first earned run in 61 1/3 innings this season.
With one out in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Panthers combined a double to dead center and an RBI single to left for the victory.
“That’s the first time we’ve been no-hit in a couple of years,” Boyer said. “Ali threw well so give her credit. We had five at-bats where we were out on the first pitch and didn’t hit the ball very hard.
“She’s the best pitcher we’ve faced this year. She really moves the ball in-and-out.”
Shawnee had just five baserunners as Manship fanned five, walked one and hit one.
Brokeshoulder, in 6 1/3 innings, fanned nine, surrendered four hit and didn’t permit a walk. “She was probably a little fatigued but she threw well,” Boyer said.
“It was just a good high school game featuring two quality pitchers,” Boyer said. “David Shannon does as good a coaching job as anyone around. They are always prepared and they always play hard.”
Shawnee will play two games today at the Shawnee Tournament. The Lady Wolves will oppose Ada at 11 a.m. and Tulsa Washington at 12:30.
