HULBERT — McLoud’s varsity wrestlers earned third place as a team, behind Sallisaw and Fort Gibson, at the Maverick Conference Tournament Saturday.
Nine Redskin wrestlers took part in the competition, with six placing in the top three individually. Of those six, four took first.
Brent McCormick (103 pounds), Mike Lisher (130 pounds) and Austin Gunter (171 pounds) took first place individually by pinning their opponents, while Michael Tiffin registered an 8-3 decision for first place at 152 pounds.
Larry Firkins, at 160 pounds, took second after going down by a fall, and Josh Mouser took third with a 9-1 decision at 112 pounds.
The Maverick Conference Tournament was McLoud’s last tournament of the season before regionals, which will begin in two weeks. The Redskins — 14-4 on duals — have finished in the top four in four tournaments this year, including a second-place finish at Weatherford.
McLoud took fourth at the Bristow Tournament and the Midwestern Conference Tournament.
The Redskins will compete in regionals at Weatherford.
