Shawnee head softball coach Todd Boyer was very pleased Tuesday night after his Lady Wolves registered a 4-0 win over visiting Deer Creek.
“We didn’t commit an error,” Boyer said. “I told the girls after the game that if we get timely hits and make routine plays, we will win a lot of games. I am very pleased with how we played.”
Right-hander Ashley Brokeshoulder upped her record to 6-2 with a seven-inning six-hitter. All six hits were singles. Brokeshoulder, who is averaging 12 strikeouts per game, had 11 Tuesday.
No Deer Creek runner advanced past second base. Deer Creek did advance a runner to second in the fourth and fifth innings.
Shawnee, which finished with just six hits, scored a run in the first inning when Sidni Boyer reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second and scored on Brokeshoulder’s double.
It stayed at 1-0 until the sixth when the Lady Wolves tallied three runs. Hampton singled, moved to third on Boyer’s double and both runners scored on Brokeshoulder’s two-bagger. Courtesy runner Alyssa Davis then closed out the scoring on an infield grounder by Harley Davis.
Brittany Hampton joined Brokeshoulder as a multiple hitter with two singles. Cara Penson added an infield single for Shawnee.
Shawnee will travel to Harrah today to make up a game that was rained out last Tuesday. The varsity contest will begin at 4 p.m.
Boyer’s squad will host the Shawnee Tournament Thursday through Saturday.
