Cavaliers snap 13-game skid

St. Gregory’s losing skid is over.
The Cavaliers, who were 0-13 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, upended visiting Wayland Baptist, 79-73, Saturday afternoon.
St. Gregory’s, 6-13 overall, received 27 points from Jade Carter and 21 from Fayzon Richey. Carter hit all four of his free throws and knocked down 10 of 18 shots from the field.
The Cavaliers were 83.7 percent (18-of-21) from the stripe. Richey canned all four of his charities and was also 40 percent (4-of-10) from 3-point range. He also led all players with four steals.
The Cavaliers took a 34-23 halftime lead, then held on as Wayland fell to 4-12 in the SAC and 13-10 overall.
Sam Stuart and Brock Vorwald had seven rebounds apiece for the victors.
Jason Griffin was Wayland’s leading scorer with 20 points. The Pioneers converted 50 percent (11-of-22) of their 3-point shots.
Ricardo Rose, Dominique Johnson and Ryan Florie had six points apiece for SGU.

St. Gregory’s trailed 32-20 at the intermission en route to falling to 3-11 in the SAC and 8-14 overall.
The Lady Cavs had a miserable shooting outing, hitting 32.1 percent (17-of-53) of their overall attempts and just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) of their 3-point efforts.
Leticia Silva was St. Gregory’s only double-figure scorer with 12.
Wayland outrebounded the hosts, 41-34.
Erika Raymond was Wayland’s (14-9, 9-7) leading scorer with 18.
St. Gregory’s will play at OBU Tuesday night.
