The Oklahoma Baptist offensive machine churned out 119 more points Monday night in a 119-69 rout of Central Bible College in men’s basketball action.
The NAIA’s top-ranked offense, which came in averaging 111.5 points, had three players reach the 20-point level Monday night.
“Any defense can take one or two players around but if you’ve got to guard four or five, it makes it a lot more difficult,” said OBU coach Doug Tolin. “Hopefully, we’re getting better as we’re going along. We’re going to have to get a lot better as we get deeper into the schedule. We handled the ball a little better and we’re getting more comfortable with the pace.”
OBU trailed only briefly in the first half and led 60-32 at halftime.
The Bison got 27 points from A.J. Hawkins, 26 from Nate Brumfield and 20 from Garrett Steinmetz to go along with 15 by Emmanuel Wilson and 14 by Jerrod Tillmon.
The Bison kept a 41-23 rebound advantage, led by Hawkins with six.
OBU shot 63.5 percent for the game, including 47.1 percent (8-17) from 3-point range..
Blake Hanson led the Spartans with 18 points.
Now 3-0, the Bison return to action Saturday against MidAmerica Nazarene University, which eliminated OBU in the national tournament last season, in Olathe, Kan.
Central Bible College will return to OBU Nov. 27 for a 4 p.m. contest.
