The Dale girls (13-0) broke away from a three-point lead at halftime to rout McLoud 61-39 Friday night.
The Lady Pirates, unbeaten and ranked third (CoachesAid) in Class 2A, outscored McLoud 14-3 in the third quarter.
“We gave up just two baskets in the second half,” Dale coach Benny Burnett said. “They had one 3-pointer in the third quarter and one two-point field goal in the fourth quarter.”
Kaylee Williams and Brenna Burnett led Dale with 18 points each. Williams went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
Ashley Lane led McLoud with 11 points, including one trey and a 4-for-5 performance at the charity stripe.
“Our defense got a lot better in the second half,” Burnett said. “We cranked it up.”
McLoud’s boys earned a split with a 59-57 overtime win over Dale in the nightcap.
McLoud (5-5) held a 37-29 lead entering the final eight minute but was outscored 17-9 to force an overtime session. There was no scoring in the final 1 1/2 minutes of regulation play.
With the score tied 48 in the overtime, junior Blake Worlund gave McLoud the lead for good with a 3-point field goal. Dale missed a desperation heave from midcourt as time expired.
Josh Idleman was McLoud’s leading scorer wih 11 points, including one trey. Todd Blackwolf added 10 points and Worland canned two treys en route to eight points.
McLoud’s Tony Norwood, who opened the scoring in overtime, added nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
For Dale, junior Turner Coon finished with 15 points and Darin Greene supplied 12. Flewallen had eight.
McLoud was 15 of 22 from the charity stripe. Dale was 19 of 34.
“It was a good effort by our guys,” McLoud coach Brad Moody said. “It was a nip-and-tuck game the whole way. Worland led us from the point-guard position.”
McLoud will entertain Bethel Tuesday night. Dale hosts Wellston Monday.
