St. Gregory’s Lady Cavaliers improved their overall record to 15-7, and they moved past the .500 mark in the Sooner Athletic Conference (8-7) with a 75-63 victory Thursday night over visiting Mid-America Christian University.
The win comes after SGU was humbled in overtime, 77-65, at Rogers State Jan. 28.
St. Gregory’s rang up a 40-27 first-half lead Thursday, canning 15 of 36 field goals to MACU’s 9-for-35 (25.7 percent). The Lady Cavaliers finished the outing at 45.9 percent (28-for-61), including a 4-for-16 effort from 3-point range.
The Lady Evangels finished at a paltry 27.5 percent (19-for-69), despite Brittany Woodard’s game-high 22 points. Woodard was 7-for-21 from the floor — including 2-for-10 from long range — and she netted all six of her free throws.
MACU finished at 18-for-20 (90 percent) on foul shots, compared to SGU’s 71.4 percent (15-for-21).
Kourtni Williams supplied 16 for MACU.
St. Gregory’s put three players in double figures, led by Leticia Silva at 20. Kylie Mayes provided 16, and Jalisa Howard added a baker’s dozen. Silva led SGU in treys with three, and Howard and Mayes shared rebounding honors with nine apiece.
Mayes was 6-for-8 at the charity stripe, while Silva was 5-for-7.
SGU was out-scored in the second half, 36-35, but the Lady Cavs were accurate on 52 percent of their second-half floor shots. MACU was accurate on just 29.4 percent.
The Lady Evangels lost the board battle, 48-39, but turned the ball over 13 times to the Lady Cavs’ 17.
St. Gregory’s will go to top-ranked Oklahoma City at 3 p.m. Saturday. The men’s game will follow.
The SGU-MACU men’s game was rescheduled from Thursday to 7 p.m. Monday at W.P. Wood Fieldhouse. The Cavaliers, who missed their game Jan. 28 at Rogers State because of a traffic accident in Shawnee, are scheduled to make up that game at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 13, in Claremore.
