SPRINGER – Behind 29 points from Matt Johnson and 20 from Derek Claytor, Asher launched its 2009-2010 campaign Friday night with a 63-47 victory over Springer.
Asher never was threatened after outscoring the hosts 21-1 in the opening quarter.
The visitors led 45-14 at the intermission and 57-30 going into the final eight minutes.
Claytor also had a game-high 10 rebounds.
Asher’s girls weren’t so fortunate, dropping a 40-30 deicision after trailing 19-6 after one quarter.
Casady Reimers was Asher’s only double-figure scorer with 13 points. Temmate Erin Casey added nine points.
Both Asher squads will play Tuesday at Liberty Academy. Asher will also entertain Stonewall Friday night.
