Homecoming proved to be just what Seminole needed.
The Chieftains, who started 0-4 in their first season in Class 4A, got their first win Friday night over district foe Mannford, 21-13.
Seminole had to come from behind to get the elusive victory. Mannford took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Gage Waffle caught a 32-yard touchdown pass from Cody Egger.
The Chieftains tied the score before halftime as Myron Barnes reached the end zone on a 3-yard run. Barnes later gave Seminole the lead on a 4-yard TD reception from Garrett Clark in the third quarter.
Mannford's Pirates (1-4, 0-2) raised the homecoming crowd's anxiety level with another Waffle touchdown early in the fourth quarter that could have tied the game again, but the point-after kick attempt failed, leaving Seminole clinging to a 14-13 lead.
The game's biggest play — a 94-yard TD pass from Clark to Jarrod lloyd — gave the Chieftains some fourth-quarter breathing room.
Seminole outgained the visitors 317-211. branes was the Chieftains' top rusher with 77 yards on 11 carries. Clark completed 12 of 17 passes for 202 yards.
Seminole's next game will be Friday at Cleveland.
