Oklahoma Baptist covered the cross country course at Lubbock Christian University with a team time of 1:37.49 to claim the Sooner Athletic Conference women’s cross country title Friday before the Bison took second in the men’s race.
“The girls did really well,” said OBU coach Ford Mastin. “Our guys didn’t have the times we would have wanted, but it wasn’t a lack of effort. Both our men and women ran hard. There were some good teams here.”
OBU’s women finished with 46 points to hold off Oklahoma Christian with 61 and Lubbock Christian with 71. Wayland Baptist was fourth with 84, followed by Southern Nazarene at 128, Oklahoma City at 180, Northwestern Oklahoma State at 181 and Mid-America Christian at 182.
The Lady Bison, earning a trip to the national meet Nov. 21 in Vancouver, Wash., were led by Natalie Pedersen in fourth place at 19:07.36 with Kayla Lee ninth (19:34), Jessica Herbert 10th (19:41), Meredith Gardner 11th (19:43.21) and Danielle Cummins 12th (19:43.88).
All five OBU scorers earned all-conference honors.

Oklahoma Christian won the men’s meet with 48 points. OBU was second at 64, followed by Lubbock Christian at 77, Wayland at 84, SNU at 86, Northwestern State at 196, OCU at 203 and Mid-America at 205.
OBU had three all-conference runners in Nathan Ellis, Caleb Clark and Justin Stroup.

The Bison, who could move on to the national meet with an at-large berth, await Sunday’s final rating.
If OBU fails to qualify as a team, Ellis would advance as an individual qualifier.
