Oklahoma’s 2009 regular high school football season concludes tonight, but several Tri-County teams will not be hanging up the shoulder pads just yet.
Already assured a postseason berth are Shawnee, Stroud, Maud, Tecumseh, Prague and Chandler. Barring a calamitous domino effect across District 4A-2 tonight, Seminole’s Chieftains will also see playoff action.
As the leaders in their respective districts, Shawnee, Stroud and Maud will have home field advantage during the postseason’s first week.
A report surfaced Thursday night that Meeker may make the playoffs by virtue of a series of forfeits on the part of a District 2A-2 opponent. According to coachesaid.com, the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) has ruled that the Jones Longhorns must give up six wins and a district championship because of a case involving player eligibility.
This, in turn, moves Millwood to first place in the district and allows Meeker’s Bulldogs to ascend to a third-place tie with Lexington.
The Bulldogs (5-4, 3-3) will host Millwood (7-2, 5-1) tonight. Jones is scheduled to host Bethel.
Shawnee’s Wolves, the No. 1 team in Class 5A, reaped their first undefeated season in over three decades with a 42-10 showing opposite host Capitol Hill Thursday night.
Also looking to snag an unblemished regular season mark are Stroud’s Tigers and Maud’s Tigers. Stroud, ranked second in Class A, will put its 9-0 record on the line tonight at unranked Dibble.
Stroud holds down the District A-5 top spot with a 7-0 record, while Dibble and Konawa are both 3-4. Stratford, Wayne and Wynnewood are vying for second place at 5-2 each.
Class C’s third-ranked Maud, also 9-0, is in first place at 6-0 in District C-4. The Tigers will tangle on the road tonight with district foe Bluejacket. The Chieftains are 3-6 overall and 2-4 against district opposition.
Tecumseh’s No. 11 Savages have their first winning record since 2003, and will invade unranked Cleveland tonight at 7-2 overall and 4-2 in District 4A-2. The Savages are third in the district behind Glenpool and Star Spencer, who are tied for first at 6-0.
Glenpool’s Redskins and Star Spencer’s Bobcats will square off tonight to determine who has the rights to the top spot.
Prague’s Red Devils, at 4-5 overall and 4-2 against district foes, are in a three-way tie for second place with Beggs and Morris in District 2A-5. No. 20 Chandler is the district’s champion with a 5-1 record.
Prague will visit Henryetta (1-8, 1-5) tonight, while Chandler travels to Eufaula (2-7, 2-4).
Seminole’s Chieftains, at 4-5 overall and 3-3 in District 4A-2, will attempt to maintain their fourth-place standing as they host McLoud tonight. The Redskins are 2-7 on the season, and 2-4 in the district.
The Macomb Hornets ended their 2009 season Thursday night with a 49-0 loss to visiting Caddo. The Class B Hornets, in their second year of football, finished the season at 0-10.
All kickoffs tonight are slated for 7:30.
