SHAWNEE, Okla. —

St. Gregory’s University’s soccer teams earned their first Sooner Athletic Conference soccer victories over the weekend, defeating visiting Wayland Baptist.
The Lady Cavs posted a 2-1 overtime win to move to 4-10-1 overall and 1-6 in the SAC, while the Cavaliers registered a 9-0 shutout for a 5-9 season record and 1-5 SAC record.
SGU’s Rosemary Cruz knotted the score at 1 in the second half on an assist from Jessica Levia.
Shelby Rackley scored the tiebreaker at the 97:13 mark, unassisted.
Wayland Baptist collected a total of 17 shots, including eight on goal, while the Lady Cavs had five total shots with four on goal.
Kylie Middleton posted two saves for the Lady Pioneers, while SGU’s Jennifer Taber had seven.
St. Gregory’s led the men’s contest 3-0 in the first half, and scored an additional six goals in the second. The tidal wave was sparked by William Huttle’s shot off an Igor Manfro assist just over five minutes into the match.
Manfro went on to score twice for the Cavaliers and collect one more assist, and Alex Guerrero scored two goals.
Kevin Chavez put St. Gregory’s up 6-0 at the 53:54 mark, and Joshua Yax made it 7-0 less than six minutes later.
Antony Moore, assisted by Chavez, scored the Cavaliers’ last two goals only 46 seconds apart.
St. Gregory’s was scheduled to travel to SAC foe Southern Nazarene Tuesday, and no information was available on those games at press time.
