Longtime Oklahoma Baptist University assistant baseball coach Chris Klimas was promoted during the season to associate head coach.
The announcement came in April as part of the celebration of head coach Bobby Cox’s 1,000th win.
“The last 10 years, coach Klimas has been a big part of all of this, both as a player and a coach,” Cox said.
Klimas has been the assistant baseball coach since 2002. He played two seasons for the Bison as a catcher.
He has been long remembered for ending the season of top-ranked Oklahoma City University with an 11th-inning home run in the 2000 Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament at Bricktown Ballpark.
Klimas, a product of Broken Arrow High School, caught three pitchers who went on to pitch under professional contracts.
He batted .306 his senior season in 2001 and
was error free in 370 chances, a new OBU record.
Klimas also played two years at Collin County Community College in 1999, earning an associate’s degree.
He left CCCC with school records for career batting average (.392) and single-season batting average (.400).
He was All-Conference and All-Region in 1999.
While at BAHS, Klimas was All-Conference in baseball and All-District in football.
