Shawnee YMCA making move to new football association

The Shawnee YMCA is making a move into the “Pop Warner Football Association,” and registrations will be accepted through July 31 for teams playing this fall.
Shawnee’s teams will play from the Oklahoma City area, and teams can consist of players from Shawnee and surrounding communities.

Blackhawks win USSSA state qualifier

The Tecumseh Blackhawks took home first-place finish in the recent USSSA State Qualifier Tee-Ball Tournament in Sapulpa.

Harvey’s to help local youth baseball

Harvey’s Chevrolet has announced it will be investing support in Shawnee through a partnership with Shawnee Youth Athletic Association.
Harvey’s Chevrolet will provide baseball equipment, instructional clinics, a monetary donation, and an opportunity to raise an additional $10,000 in funds through a Chevy vehicle giveaway-fundraiser.

Julia Landwert receives state title

On Jan. 16, Julia Landwert received her State Title from the Oklahoma Karate Association. 
Landwert was awarded the title in the 14-15 year old Advanced Division for Fighting. She has been training in Taekwondo and Karate for the last 2 1/2 years and is a brown belt.

Walk to School month

The St. Gregory’s University baseball team recently combined with Will Rogers Elementary School to celebrate International Walk to School Month. SGU players escorted the children during their mile-long journey along Union Street in Shawnee.

Youth basketball sign-ups

The Pottawatomie County Athletic Association is having basketball sign-ups for boys and girls in kindergarten through sixth grade Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Hibbett Sports in the Shawnee Mall.
A second sign-up date will be Sunday, Sept. 27, from 2 to 6 p.m. in the same location.

Shawnee Bowl, 701 N. Harrison, will take registrations Aug. 22-29 and Sept. 12 for the USBC Youth Bowling League.

Langley takes second place at Trosper course

Daniel Langley recorded a personal-best 69 in finishing second Wednesday in an Oklahoma Junior golf tournament at Oklahoma City’s Trosper course.
Langley and Quade Cummings, competing in the 12-13 year-old division, both came in at 1-under-par 69 (silver tees), thus necessitating a sudden-death playoff.
