On Jan. 16, Julia Landwert received her State Title from the Oklahoma Karate Association.
Landwert was awarded the title in the 14-15 year old Advanced Division for Fighting. She has been training in Taekwondo and Karate for the last 2 1/2 years and is a brown belt. She fought in her first tournament in March 2009. Since that time she has gone on to participate in the AAU National Championship in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where she received the silver medal in Olympic Style Continuous Fighting.
This past October she traveled to Arkansas where she won first and received the title in Katas and Fighting for the Northwest Arkansas Taekwondo Champion. On Saturday she competed in a tournament sponsored by the OKA and won first in Forms and Fighting.
Landwert is a freshman at Liberty Academy where she is on the Superintendant’s Honor Roll. At Liberty she also plays basketball, volleyball and is a cheerleader. She is also involved in the U.S. Naval Sea Cadets as a Petty Officer Third Class.
