AP — State workers are asking lawmakers to give them a pay raise.
More than 100 workers rallied at the state Capitol Tuesday to press their demands for a pay raise. They wore red T-shirts that bore the phrase, "Leave us out, we'll vote you out."
The Oklahoma Public Employees Association has asked for a $2,700 pay raise for the state's 34,000 workers.
But lawmakers have said there isn't enough new revenue for a pay raise. The state's $7.1 billion budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1 includes no salary increases.
Rep. Al McAffrey of Oklahoma City says some lawmakers are pushing a plan to take $47 million from the state's constitutional Rainy Day reserve fund to pay for a raise.
