The Oklahoma Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School Program sponsored the 13th annual International Walk to School Day Oct. 7.
In Oklahoma alone, ODOT estimates that more than 40,000 children from more than 80 schools participated in the event this year.
Participants from across the state joined children and adults in 40 countries around the world in celebrating International Walk to School Day.
While ODOT sponsored the Walk to School Day events statewide, local school and community groups organized the details of the individual events.
Shawnee Public Schools was among those participating in the event.
