Pottawatomie County sheriff’s deputies made two arrests, found 26 grams of methamphetamine and seized nearly $14,000 in cash during a traffic stop along Moccasin Trail Road.

Sheriff Mike Booth said Steven D. Faulkner, 53, and Stephanie E. Gann, 31, were arrested on complaints of unlawful trafficking of a controlled dangerous substance, methamphetamine, and Faulkner also was jailed on a complaint of attempting to elude police. Formal charges have not been filed.

Booth said Deputy Randy Holt was in the area north of Shawnee late Wednesday night looking for suspected copper thieves when he attempted a traffic stop, where the driver bailed from the vehicle.

Although two unrelated situations, Booth said Faulkner, driving a 2003 Honda, approached that area, saw the police lights and “made a hasty turnaround.”

Lt. Joe McGirt, who was responding to assist Holt on the other call, noticed the maneuver and got into a short, low-speed pursuit with the Honda, Booth said. During that short pursuit, at about a 5 mph-pace, it was believed the suspects were allegedly trying to hide the drugs, the sheriff said.

During the investigation, Booth said deputies recovered what was determined to be 26 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $2,600.

They also seized the Honda and found cash, which upon counting totaled nearly $14,000, the sheriff said. They will seek forfeiture of the drug funds, which could be shared between the sheriff’s office and the district attorney’s office, Booth said.

Both Faulkner and Gann were booked into the Pottawatomie County Public Safety Center. Faulkner was released Thursday after posting a $7,500 bond, jail records show. Gann remained jailed Thursday on a $5,000 bond.

Booth said the car involved in the copper case along the same roadway was impounded after some copper materials were found inside, but the persons who fled on foot were not found. That case remains under investigation.
