Longtime Shawnee motion picture exhibitor Jones Theatres, Inc., said the company has signed a lease to operate a movie theatre at Shawnee Mall, owned by the Lightstone Group.
Jones Theatres, in a joint venture with national cinema operator Carmike Cinemas, will open the theatre in early spring 2010. The Jones/Carmike venture now operates the Cinema Centre 8 and Hornbeck and Penthouse Twin in Shawnee. Both of those theatres will continue operation.
The mall theatre will be in the space currently occupied as a theatre at Shawnee Mall. Beginning in January, the present theatre will close for new seating as well as installation of the latest Digital projection technology in all auditoriums, including Digital 3D. Lobby and restroom facilities will be redecorated and all technical systems updated, featuring a newly equipped concessions area.
