Baxters, News-Star appreciated

These good Samaritans, the Baxter family, as well as the Shawnee NewsStar employees, took the time and effort to assist these helpless animals and their owner out of a bad situation. Now the “official animal rights groups” are up in arms and have contacted the Pottawatomie County sheriff and district attorney because they were apparently left out of the loop. Ridiculous! The woman who was the owner of the alleged puppy mill had lost her husband. Who of us has not lost a loved one, suffered deep grief to the point of becoming frozen in dispair, unable to function, to the point of not being able to handle daily responsibilities?
The Baxters apparently knew this woman’s plight and stepped in to lend a helping hand, not only to the owner but the animals.
Having met some of the “official group” representatives on a few occasions, I was taken aback by the attitudes shown. They were rude, defensive and aloof. I went away with the feeling they were more interested in their self-importance than their empathy for the animals. The sheriff and district attorney have more important problems to deal with than to be bothered with this situation.
