The Season
Shawnee claimed the District 5A-2 championship with a 7-0 record while earning its first undefeated regular season in 36 years. The 1973 SHS squad went 10-0 in the regular campaign en route to a state championship.
Thirty years later, the 2003 squad captured a state championship.

No other 2009 opponent has come closer than 10 points to the Wolves.
The Playoffs
Shawnee will launch postseason play next Friday night at Jim Thorpe Stadium against the fourth-place finisher from District 5A-1. That will likely be Altus.
Should Shawnee prevail, it would also get the home-field advantage for the second round.
Entering Friday night’s schedule, Altus and Deer Creek were locked in a fourth-place tie at 3-3 while Chickasha was 2-4. El Reno and Duncan had already locked up first-round host berths.
Sixteen teams from four 5A districts make the playoffs. In the first round, the first-place team from one district takes on the fourth-place team from another district while a district runner-up will oppose a third-place finisher.
To capture the 5A state title, a squad must win four games. The state championship game will be held the first weekend of December at a neutral site.
