Fouzie Moola, RN/director of nursing, and Yvetta Alderson, LPN/assistant director of nursing, are my heroes. These ladies go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure the residents of Shawnee Care Center are taken care of and receive everything they need. They make sure the facility and staff in all the departments give 110 percent for the residents.
I have the opportunity to be around these ladies. They know everything and all the little things and know the families of each resident.
We get patients who have improved and their quality of life has gotten better. Patients are walking again that couldn’t walk when they came in. These ladies are very compassionate and love all the residents. These ladies can be tough and hold their ground and fight for residents.
Shawnee Care Center is one of the oldest nursing homes in Shawnee. I feel it’s the best one in Shawnee. The longevity of employment is several years or more. They have trust and respect from every employee there. I look up to these ladies.
A family member knows their loved one is in the best hands and in the best place when it comes time that they have to be placed in a nursing home.
I met Fouzie years ago when we worked together at the hospital. She is an excellent nurse. I never had to worry about anything when she was in charge. She has been fair to me and other employees. She’ll give you a chance if possible. Yvetta was a nurse aide when she started at SCC and went on to be an LPN. She is very knowledgeable and I depend on her for many things. She has seen and overcome so many changes through the years and is still here. If I have a question or concern about anything with a patient, I don’t hesitate to bring it to them. These ladies are known as Mama and Auntie to many of the employees.
When someone steps through the doors of SCC, they step into a special world. Fouzie strives to keep the facility not only clean, but smelling clean. She wants the residents looking nice, neat and clean. If a certain resident needs special equipment or something that will help improve their quality of life, these ladies do their best to provide it.
The residents look forward to social activities, they look forward to the bingo and they proudly show off their prizes. Even Elvis Presley, at least an impersonator, came to the facility and it was the highlight of the day for them. One resident wore her Elvis T-shirt and gave him a rose and another woman had tears in her eyes because he sang a song that reminded her of her husband. For a little while they were the happiest they had been. When we lose a resident that is special, many tears are shed and they’re sorely missed and for a long time that person’s name is still mentioned. There once was a former resident that found his way back to SCC. He wouldn’t leave, he called it Hilton SCC.
Fouzie is tough on the nurses and CANs, but that’s because she expects the best from her employees. In return she does a lot for the employees. Nursing homes are hard work but it’s a job that has to be done. Someone has to do it. Fouzie and Yvetta make sure the job gets done. That’s why these two amazing ladies are my heroes of Shawnee Care Center.
