Dear Daddy,
Just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you. You know, I didn’t think you’d make it this far.
Well, I was really more scared that you wouldn’t more than anything. And like I’ve told you before, I’ve waited a long time to see you and Mama like this. To see you sober. You two are a lot happier now than you were before.
I can see it in your eyes. And it feels real good because we can all spend time together as a family. It feels real good. And when you joke about going back out when you graduate, I knew you weren’t joking. I know that it really is in the back of our mind.
I know it isn’t easy sometimes. But being here with you and Mama has helped me a lot more than you know. When I look at you two every day, I know that I can make it. And when I think about what it would be like if you went back out after you graduate, it makes my stomach turn.
It makes me sick to my stomach. Then I just feel like crying because that thought is so scary. And I know for a fact that I would be so hurt. All these people that look up to you, Daddy they’re not the only ones.
I’ve always looked up to you. You and Mama. I never did like what ya’ll did, but you took care of me. I had a roof over my head and I had food to eat. But when I look back and think of all those times, there was something missing. And that was you and Mama.
We used to do all kinds of things together, then it all stopped. And I broke my promise to myself. I said I’d never do what you were doing. But, before I knew it, I was right there alongside you. And to think of how I once was and how we all were. That is a scary thought. We were different.
I love my kids. But I did neglect then when I used to do that stuff. And I never wanted to do that. They are my life. And I am glad that it’s not too late to change the way I am. To be a better parent for them. They deserve the best. And that is what I plan to give them. Daddy, you are a lot stronger person than you think you are.
You don’t need to go back out. You got us. You got your family. That’s all you need. I know going to these meetings and spending time with you has opened my eyes a lot. I am glad to be here today and I always look forward to tomorrow. Yeah, things might be harder to get through, but we got each other to help each other get through those hard times.
And I will do all I can to keep you from going that other way. I wouldn’t love you any less if that ever did happen, but I believe that all of this has brought us all closer. And all that other stuff did was pull us all apart. And yeah, I’m pretty much the one who has grown up with you and I was the only one that you were there for. But the way you are here for me now. I don’t remember the last time you were ever here for me like you are now. And I love being this close to you. I love you Daddy! And I just want you to know that I am very proud of you.
Love Always,
Christa Michele Tsotaddle
