Just in time for International Women's Day on March 8, Mattel announced the release of 17 new Barbie dolls, part of their Inspiring Women series. Said Barbie's senior vice president and general manager, Lisa McKnight in a press release, "Girls have always been able to play out different roles and careers with Barbie and we are thrilled to shine a light on real-life role models to remind them that they can be anything." The first three to be rleased are artist Frida Kahlo, aviator Amelia Earhart and NASA engineer Katherine Johnson, which will soon be available for purchase or pre-order.
Each doll comes with information on how her inspirationa woman has impacted our society as well as a certificate of authenticity. Future dolls include Journalist Martyna Wojciechowska, Filmmaker Patty Jenkins, Prima Ballerina Yuan Yuan Tan and Ibtihaj Muhammad, Fencing Champion. Get the full list here.
