Pamela Ann (Austin) Sing

Pamela “Pam” Ann (Austin) Sing, 76, of Shawnee, departed this realm peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, May 1, 2022, after a prolonged battle with cancer.

She was born in Oklahoma City, OK, to Merritt Young Austin, Jr. and Helen Louise (Freeze) Austin on October 27, 1945. She attended several schools growing up including Claud (near Velma), Davis, Tecumseh, and Enid. Pam was a 1963 graduate of Enid High School, and was an honorary member of the Tecumseh High School Class of 1963.

She graduated from the practical nursing program at Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech in 1972. Pam worked at various places as an LPN throughout her career, including as a Home Health Nurse with the Indian Health Service (IHS). Pam retired as Head Charge Nurse of Central Sterile at Unity Health Center in Shawnee. In her retirement, she continued utilizing her nursing skills as a volunteer at the Pottawatomie County Free Health Clinic and Shawnee Senior Center administering blood pressure checks.

Pam was widely known as a very caring and compassionate person who always loved to converse. She adored her family, and especially enjoyed being “mamaw” to her grandchildren. Her various hobbies included gardening, genealogy, antiques, bluegrass music, and all things related to pandas. She was very involved with THS Class of 1963, and often hosted class reunions at her home.

She is survived by her children, Travis, of Tulsa; and Emily, of Shawnee; and her grandchildren, Brynn, Aidan, and Carys; her brother, Paul Austin, of Oklahoma City; his children; and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as several beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and niece.

As per her wishes, her body was donated to medical education, and afterwards her mortal remains will be cremated. A Celebration of Life event is being planned for June. Details TBA
