Memorial services for John William Cunningham, 79, of Shawnee, Oklahoma will be on Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2 p.m. at Taylor Cemetery in Guthrie, Oklahoma with Brother Ed Wilson officiating.

John was born on July 28, 1943 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Lucille Cunningham. He died August 28, 2022 at St. Anthony’s Hospital on Lee Street in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

John joined the Navy on April 5, 1961.

John married Joyce Taylor on August 31, 1962 in Guthrie, Oklahoma. John was a very intelligent man. He accomplished anything he set his mind to. He was a skilled carpenter and crafted numerous pieces of beautiful furniture. He had a dry sense or humor and was always joking and lifting the spirits of a lot around him.

For many years, Jesus knocked on his heart’s door. The day finally came when John could start opening the door. He laid aside cigarettes and drinking and began to show tenderness. John said Joyce taught him how to pray.

John is survived by his wife Joyce, children: son, Michael Cunningham and wife Susan, granddaughter Loren Michelle. Daughter, Gina Cunningham, grandson Jeremy Himes and wife Emily. Greatgranddaughters Cora and Riley Rose Himes. Grandson Brandon Himes and wife Tyler, Great-granddaughter Hayli Himes. Grandson Trever Halladay, granddaughter Tiffany Johnson, Great-granddaughter Ava, Isla Johnson. Brother Robert Bracken and wife Clare.

He was preceded in death by his mother Lucille Cunningham.
