Pete J. Magnino

Pete J. Magnino, 89, of Concord Township, Ohio, passed away October 14, 2022. He was born March 20, 1933 to the late Pete and Ester Magnino of Tecumseh. Pete attended and graduated from the Earlsboro school system. He enrolled in what was then Oklahoma A&M in 1950 with a major in dairy manufacturing, prompted by his trips to the university for FFA judging contents when he was in high school. He was in the Infantry ROTC and graduated with a commission in 1954. He served two years in the Army and returned to Oklahoma State in 1956 to work on his masters degree which he received in 1957.

After he was awarded his masters degree, he worked at Pet Milk in Greenville, Illinois, where he was awarded two patents for the creation of the Sego diet drink introduced in 1961. He entered the University of Wisconsin in 1961 to pursue a Ph.D. in dairy science which he received in 1968. He was a Gerber scholarship recipient. He lived in eight states and worked for four Fortune 500 companies. Pete was an avid sports fan with an encyclopedic knowledge of teams and players, especially in baseball. He enjoyed photography and the outdoors and liked to spend time on the beaches of Lake Erie. He was proud of his family heritage and spent time researching the Magnino family genealogy back to the family’s home in the northern part of Italy. He loved his family and he loved Oklahoma.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna D. Magnino of Concord Township, Ohio; his daughter, Lisa Magnino, her husband Jon Coifman and grandson, Alexander Coifman of South Orange, New Jersey; his sister, Lue Bryant and her husband, Jerry and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members. Preceding Pete in death are his siblings, Katherine Childers, AJ Magnino and Christina Watson. Private family services were held in Ohio. A celebration of life will be held in Oklahoma in the spring.
