Floyd Douglas Satterfield, resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away October 27, 2022, at the SSM Health, St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years. Graveside services will be held at Kendrick Cemetery in Kendrick, Oklahoma on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at 2:00 pm. Officiant will be the Rev. Ray Belford of the First Christian Church of Shawnee where Floyd was a member.
Floyd was born in Davenport, Oklahoma on July 17, 1932, to Frances Julia Purscell and Brady Albert Satterfield. He attended Kendrick Public Schools and graduated in 1949. After high school Floyd attended Oklahoma A & M, graduating with an Electrical Engineering degree in 1953. After college he was drafted by the U.S. Army and proudly served his country overseas in the Korean War from 1953-1955. Floyd was a decorated Veteran of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Tecumseh American Legion.
Floyd accepted employment from OG&E after returning from his military service. He spent the next 34 years with this company in Oklahoma City and Shawnee, in the field and as a supervisor. He loved his job working on sub-stations and valued the loyalty of those who worked with him. He was recognized for many achievements during his tenure with OG&E, but none were more significant than the Safety Awards he was presented with.
Floyd was somewhat of a private man until you got to know him. He was extremely opinionated and enjoyed discussing OSU football, politics, and everyday life with his friends at Carls Jr. He enjoyed eating out and was well known by many who waited on him at local restaurants.
The light of his life was his family. He went to great lengths to be present at holiday gatherings, weddings, and family events. One gathering you could always set your watch by was his 12:00 pm Saturday meeting with his sister Pat in Midwest City. She always needed something fixed, and Floyd could repair about anything. It is traditions such as these where Floyd will be greatly missed.
Floyd is survived by his sister Patricia Miller of Midwest City, sister-in-law Betty Satterfield of Sand Springs, nieces Shirley Neal and husband Dean of Neosho, Missouri; Dana Bryant and husband David of Tulsa; nephews Michael Miller and wife Reanonda of Midwest City; Bobby Miller and wife Suzanne of Pawnee; Gene Miller of Del City; Dennis Satterfield and wife Maureen of Collinsville; Donnie Satterfield and wife Tammy of Sand Springs, and Scott Satterfield and wife Angie of Sand Springs; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Bill Satterfield, and brother-in-law, Billy Miller.
