Karen Sue Dickenson

Karen Sue Dickenson celebrated her life with family one last time before passing away on her 86th birthday on November 6, 2022. She was born on November 6, 1936 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to AJ and Alice Farris. She married Lonnie “Poncho” Dickenson in December 1957 who preceded her in death in 1988. Together they had three children: James, Gina, and Jerry Dickenson.

During her working years, Karen was a grade school bus driver for North Rock Creek schools, a cook at Bea Britton’s restaurant (known for her famous fried chicken), and lastly retired after 20 years from Allen Bradley/TDK.

Karen was a devout Christian and led her family with a strong belief in God. She was an active member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Shawnee where she enjoyed fellowship during church service, games of dominos, and outings with the church ladies. She most notably cherished her memory as a missionary traveling to China with the church. Her love of travel helped her embrace such a rare opportunity. She personally traveled all over the world with her best friend Miriam including a historic trip to Israel. Her last travel adventure was a cruise to the Bahamas with her granddaughter (where she never touched the water but still enjoyed the exotic food and beautiful scenery). She also loved being the best grandmother she could be and relished the title “Grandma K”.

Though Karen resided in Shawnee for most of her life, she moved to Choctaw in 2018 to be closer to family and enjoy her golden years in their company.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents. She also unexpectedly lost her husband, son James, and grandson Jason during her lifetime. She remained steadfast in her faith that they would all be reunited in Heaven. What a glorious reunion they’ve had together!

Karen is survived by brother and wife, Lynn and Lucille Farris; daughter and husband Gina Hurley Gall and Bob Gall; son Jerry Dickenson; nephews John and Adam Farris and their families; grandchildren Stephanie Hurley and partner Dustin Breshears, Rebecca (Hurley) Smith, Daniel Hurley and wife Christine, Makayla Turner, and Bryce Dickenson; great-grandchildren Gage Smith, Collin Smith, and Amelia Hurley; and her lifelong best friend Miriam Gaines.

Arrangements are under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home in Shawnee with a service and burial scheduled for family and friends on November 12,
